Polymarket trading bots: how they work
A trading bot for prediction markets is software that places orders for you based on rules, so you don't have to watch the screen. On a platform like Polymarket, bots fall into two broad families.
1. Strategy bots
These follow a defined edge. For example, a sniper watches short "up or down" crypto markets and only enters when the price is far from a coin-flip and there's a measurable margin — filtering out most windows and firing only when the odds are in its favour.
2. Copytrading bots
These mirror another trader's public moves (see our copytrading guide). No strategy of your own — you lean on someone else's record.
How orders actually get placed
Every order on Polymarket must be signed with your private key. That's why a trustworthy bot is self-hosted: it runs on your machine with your key, and never sends it to anyone. A bot that asks you to hand over your key to a website is a red flag.
The honest part
No bot guarantees profit. Short-term markets are close to random; the only edge is hard filtering and discipline. Always validate in paper mode first and start small.
