How Polymarket resolves markets (and why it matters)

When an event ends, someone has to decide the outcome so shares can settle at $1 or $0. On Polymarket that's handled by an oracle — a decentralised mechanism (UMA) that reports the result on-chain.

Why it matters for you

Resolution isn't always instant. For fast crypto markets it's usually quick; for sports or news it can take a while after the event. If you hold to resolution, your capital is locked until the market settles. That's why some strategies sell before resolution when a position is already deep in profit, rather than waiting.

Practical tip

Automated tools resolve positions by watching the token price collapse to 1 or 0. Occasional delays are normal — the payout still lands once the oracle finalises.
