How much money do you need to start on Polymarket?
Short answer: you can start with very little, but "very little" and "worthwhile" are different numbers.
The hard minimums
- Polymarket's minimum order is roughly $1.
- Short-term sniper strategies place orders of about $3–4 each (a few shares in the entry band).
So with about $10 you can genuinely trade real money — you'll just hold one or two tiny positions at a time. It's the perfect amount to test real mode at low risk and confirm everything works.
What makes it meaningful
For sizing to matter and to hold several positions at once, roughly $50–100+ is a better starting point. More capital lets a strategy compound and spread across markets. But bigger also means bigger losses — the risk of total loss is real at any size.
The smart order
Start in paper (free), then go real with an amount you're completely fine losing. Scale only once you've seen the behaviour with your own eyes over time.
